So... A Thing Happened...

Good morning, Readers!
Picture
If you were not my immediate family, or one of my eNewsletter subscribers, you may have found out the news via my various social media on Saturday.  This post is for the people who missed it entirely.

I am really, really, really pleased to announce that my historical fiction novel Daughters of Britain has been accepted by Renaissance Press.  I signed the contract at the Bridgehead on Bank St in Old Ottawa South, after having some hot apple cider and a peanut butter cookie.

I figured I deserved the cookie.

There.  I've said it.

It's a secret I've been holding on to for a while now.  Remember that blog post where I said "Hey! I've got news.  But I can't tell you it yet."?  I'm paraphrasing, obviously.  Well, this was the news.

I'm afraid that I'm terrible at keeping my own secrets, so of course I immediately told the Amazing Flatmate (perks of living with someone, I guess), and my immediate family in an email... except my dad, because I wanted to tell him in person.

My dad had the cutest reaction, incidentally.  Needless to say, he was quite proud.

I do hope that this is the first of many successes in my writing career.  There are many things on my wish list currently for my career, but this is a great step forward.

I'm very excited to be partnering with Renaissance Press.  I know them from the convention circuit, and I know their authors.  I've heard excellent things about working with them and, judging from the ease of the contract negotiations (the contract was extremely fair.  There was only one change regarding rights reversal that I requested and was granted), they are truly great to work with.

I'm excited.

Also nervous.  I really hope I don't cock this up.

There are a few things that I need to do now that the contract is signed.  I must cut a fair amount from the prologue.  Which is good, really, even if it makes my history buff heart sad.  It's stuff that doesn't relate specifically to the story and so it should go.  I guess.

It still makes me sad.

The history won't be lost forever, however.  With Renaissance Press' permission, I will be putting that section up on Wattpad.com some time before the book is published.

I must also now come up with a blurb.

*insert melodramitc groan*

I hate writing blurbs.  I can never get them right without considerable help from other people.

Anyway, I'm running late today, as there was an unexpected snow fall and apprently Ottawa was entirely unprepared.  On that note, DRIVER'S, GET YOUR DAMNED SNOW TYRES ON, IT'S DECEMBER IN OTTAWA YOU SHOULD NOT BE SURPRISED THAT IT'S SNOWING!

Ahem.  Anyway, have a great day!  I have a tonne of work to be getting on with.

Ciao!
