Here It Is!

Good morning, Readers!

Here it is, my special Friday post.  Today, I'm sharing the tattoo I got on Monday.  I'm really happy with it.  It feels very much like me.  You don't have to like it.  I'm not going to care if that's the case.  But I love it, and I'm excited to share it.

Disclaimer: the photos were taken immediately after the tattoos were finished and before they were covered.  So it'll look a little raw.  Also, freehand stuff was drawn in red, which wasn't wiped off entirely, so it makes it look more raw that it actually was.  It really didn't hurt all that much.

First up, my redone dragon.  The tattoo beneath is old, having gotten it well over ten years ago.  It was faded and while I was still happy with it (it means a great deal to me), I think it needed something.  She was given a really rad update:

I love it so much.  The update was completely, totally worth it.

And now onto the totally new piece:

Freya's chariot, pulled by her cats.  I didn't want to have Freya herself, but rather have her represented by the falcon wings (she was in possession of a falcon feather cloak).  I chose to highlight her associations with war (she is also associated with love, fertility, seiðer (magic), and death (she has, as part of her marriage agreement with Odin, the right to chose half of the slain warriors to join her in Fólkvangr)), with the helm, spear and shield. I liken this aspect of her to the same aspect as Celtic sovereignty goddess (who are also liked with fertility, war and death, incidentally) - as part of their rule, they partook in/oversaw wars to protect their territories.  I feel my own fighting instinct is protective, and I wanted something to represent that.

I also like that Freya was Vanir, and not Aesir, and might have been part of an older pantheon in Scandinavia than the Aesir, who may have been iron age imports (if it wouldn't bore you, ask me about it all one day.  Be prepared, though.  I will not shut up).

So that's my new art.  I think maybe in the future, when I manage to save up enough to get my left half-sleeve done, extend the wings a little (have another layer of feathers), but honestly, I'm really pleased with it.

I shall be accompanying my friend to get his tattoo done, so I'll have Alicia check it over to see how it's healed  For now, I'm smiling, really happy with my new art.

Right, I have videos to edit.

Ciao!

Those are amazing. I love the look, and both the themes and symbolisms you have used (like using a symbolic representation of Freya is a brilliant idea). Thank you so much for sharing.

Thanks so much! I'm rather in love with it. I cannot recommend Alicia at Living Colour enough.

Most of the folks I know go to Living Colour for their tattoos and piercings :).

Is that so? Well, they do always seem to be relatively busy.

Hello! I was doing some research on Freya and lo and behold I find this bad azz tat! Sweet piece! I have a client who who commissioned me to come up with a Freya Norse theme dog collar and I have to ask cause it's the right thing to do and I think it would be a phenomenal piece on leather. So I ask you and your tattoo artist, can I possibly use your design? Thank you!
