Then, if I'm lucky and I get that one done, I can do all the quick editing things, file that away while I go back and edit the shit out of Soldier. Then it's off to my Beta Readers for that manuscript. The Beta Reading process takes a while, so it probably won't be until next year before I start the submission process. I have a publisher in mind that I would like the book to go to. They will be first on my list. It's a long shot, but I need to try.
So, that's my plan for this week. It's back to writing for me today. I'm a little apprehensive about getting started because, well, writing was so damned difficult last year. It was like trying to run through treacle. Hopefully this time, it'll be better. And hopefully my writing won't have suffered over the long, long break I took as a result of my inability to write.
I also just realised that for the first time since I started writing seriously, I will likely not have a book out this year. That's a weird feeling. I've been able to publish one book a year since I started. Thanks to the impossible slog that was Skylark, which was finished years ago and has been looking for a home ever since, and the fact that the two manuscripts I should have finished last year, but didn't, means there won't actually be time enough to get a book out. Skylark is on consideration with a publisher right now, and it's unlikely that I'll get a yea or nay from them any time soon. And if they do decide to take it, it's going to be a while before there is space in their publishing schedule for it. The earliest it'll get out is next year, if I'm lucky.
Man, I feel like I'm letting you all down. There won't be a book from me this year. I'm sorry.
Geez. Now I'm sad.
Which probably isn't a bad mood to be in, considering the tone of the book I'm writing. Now enough stalling, I have to get writing.
Ciao!
