Things got very busy at work, and then martial arts training switched from Tuesday to Monday evenings, so I couldn’t sneak in a quick post after work like I used to. I was, and still am, working on a new story, which was taking up my lunch hours, so I couldn’t sneak in a blog post then, either. Well, I could, but that would be detrimental to my weekly word count goals.
Today, however, is a holiday (strictly speaking, it’s not a stutory holiday here in Ontario, Canada, but my boss has given us the day off regardless) and so I find myself with a little bit of time this morning. Instead of putting on my makeup and walking into work, as I normally would, I got dress, put breakfast together, and sat down to my laptop to blog.
Speaking of this WIP, some of you may know if you’re on my Facebook or Spoutible (where I do most of my updating) that I’m quite a ways into it now. I hit the 69 (heh… I am twelve) thousand word mark on Friday, and am currently ahead of my weekly schedule by a thousand words. I did mean to increase that by another thousand this weekend, but found myself unable to move pretty much the whole weekend. I spent it lounging around and being very lazy.
In my defence, my weekdays are so full of hustle that I need a day or two of absolutely nothing in order to recover.
Anyway, back to the WIP. I have decided to call it The New Haven Incident if only because that is what I have been calling it before I made it official, and also because it kinda fits in the overall world it’s set in. The title is terribly generic, I know. But it is what it is.
It’s an odd, not-very-serious take on a zombie-like plague… but instead of zombies, it creates these weird, hyper-aggressive fairy-types. It makes me giggle. I’m not taking it very seriously, but the characters certainly are. I think that’s why it makes me giggle. While I myself find the premise incredibly silly, I am adoring the characters I’ve written. They’re wonderful. I’m having a blast writing it, I have to say.
I have decided that I’m going to offer this one as a serial. Once it’s gone through the typical editing process I use, I’ll post it up here on this blog for free. Every Friday, there will be a new chapter until the story is done. After that, I don’t know what I’ll do with it. Maybe once it’s up, I’ll figure out a paperback copy in case folks really wanted it on their shelves. I’m also seriously contemplating trying to create an interactive website for it. I have some creative ideas there, but have absolutely no clue how to implement them.
I’m mulling it over right now. I’ll see what the future brings.
In the meantime, I’ve managed to gather a book cover for it already. I’m afraid that you’ll have to wait on that reveal for a while yet. Subscribers to my newsletter, though, will be getting that with the next issue.
The whole thing has been a delight. It’s so much fun to write. I hope it will be fun to read.
Right, the rest of today’s agenda is as follows: breakfast, laundry, deep clean the kitchen, lunch, write a thousand words, clean up my studio. I’ve a full day ahead of me. I’m praying I don’t just fall asleep on my chair like I did yesterday.
I hope you’re all well and things are looking bright. Have yourselves a lovely day.
