Those who know, know that I have been struggling to find time to write. Working two jobs in not just exhausting, it gobbles up a great deal of my time. I’ve been dropping my spinning plates all over the place. I hope that sometime in the near future, I will be able to say goodbye to one of those jobs… which happens to be the one that pays the most… You know, the one I need to survive. But enough of that. I threw an idea at my Ko‑Fi subscribers to get their opinions on this, and I think I am in agreement with them.
I also realise that I’ve not really ever properly promoted my Ko-Fi. It’s my attempt at escaping the job that keeps me from being able to create more stories for you. So, let’s talk about it.
Currently, my Ko‑Fi subscribers get early access to the weekly blog post (so they’ve read this yesterday), as well as an exclusive blog post just for them. Once a month, that blog post is a report on where I am with regards to the various projects the Ko‑fi is helping fund directly.
There is a section in my discord server just for them as well. Part of that is a book club – of sorts. It is the chilliest book club ever. All it is is an online forum for books I have read/am reading. subscribers can jump in and talk about the books if they want, but there is zero pressure to read or join the discussion if they’re not inclined to in any way. It also helps take the pressure off me, which is good. I had struggled with it for a while.
They also get a discount in my Ko‑Fi store, which ought to be automatically applied.
I’m currently offering a serial recap of my twice-monthly Dungeons and Dragons sessions in the form of my character’s letters home to her mother. I’m having a lot of fun with it, actually. Also, and this has nothing to do with the topic at hand, I bought new dice (was previously playing on gifted dice).
Aren’t they pretty? They arrived at my office Monday morning, and I have been struggling to do my work. All I want to do is stare at them. Shoutout to Geekwood, the small Canadian company I got these dice from. They’re very pretty.
I digress. I had also planned to write a yearly-ish serial story for my subscribers, which would be shared in free forums and as actual published books after the subscribers got to read it first. That’s how The Timbercreek Incident began. The serials would then be shared out to other sites which permit serialisation while I start the process of turning them into books for purchase. Subscribers would get special editions of the books, with new covers, and a few extras (like colour maps, for example). This will be shifting.
I will now be serialising all my stories; new and my backlist. They will all be exclusive to my subscribers, until the serial is finished its run. These stories will not end up on any free forum as a serial afterward. They will instead be immediately thrown into the process of turning them into books for purchase. If you are not a subscriber, you can still get access, you just have to buy the book… and it will probably be a couple of years after the initial serialisation. Nothing for you has changed. Subscribers will still get special editions of the books, and a first chance at buying the book boxes I will endeavour to make before they go public (I will only make as many boxes as there are subscribers. If they sell out before going public, they sell out).
There is a whole lot more I want to do for my subscribers, but I’m bound by time restraints – I have two jobs, after all. So that’s all I feel I can do for now.
I will be beginning with The Lioness of Shara Mountain, which was supposed to be published by Renaissance Press earlier this year (pushed to early next year, and now orphaned with the closure of the press). I plan on beginning uploading the chapters weekly beginning next year. My backlist will follow. If I can get more writing done, I may bounce between new works and my back list. I haven’t gotten that far in my decision-making process yet. This way, I will be able to constantly provide content, while giving me time to complete writing new stories for my subscribers to read.

Alright, that is the new plan. Currently, I’m still trying to get my act together to create the special edition of The Timbercreek Incident, and also the book boxes. Gotta get a lot done before October!
