It's My Birthday (Month)

Published on 4 November 2026 at 08:00

Good morning, Readers!

I hope this first week of the month is treating you well!

It’s hard to believe that we are in November already. How did  that happen? It feels like October lasted all of a week.

In any case, this marks the first day of the month in which I was born. I don't really celebrate my birthday - for a variety of reasons. I really don't like making a fuss. I don't want particularly to be the focus of everyone's attention. It all kinda makes me itchy. As a general rule, my birthday is usually a quiet dinner with family, and I very much like it that way. This year, I might be going on a hike with my sisters (not blood related), with a nice dinner after. That will be nice. Also, about as high-key as I can stand.

That said, I would like some help with something, and my birthday is as good an excuse as any for me to leverage to get 'er done. So I do have something I would like for my birthday. Two things, really.

First, as you know, Renaissance Press is closing its doors. There are a lot of my books still with the distributor in their warehouse. For my birthday, I would love to empty the warehouse of my books as much as possible, so I won't have to spend tonnes of money to buy the stock myself.

There are three books with stock still at the warehouse. If any of these books appeal to you, or if you think they'd make a great gift for someone in your life, please feel free to order directly from the warehouse. I'm not sure if it is still active, but try using the code RENPRESS20 at checkout for a possible 20% off.

68 a.d. and Rome owns nearly all of Europe. It's life or death both in the arena and out for the Mederei and Adalbern as they try to survive and save their people from Rome. Gladitorial combat, finding love in dark times, and the fight for freedom, this book is for everyone who loves historical fiction.

Betrayal draws Aleksandar, Prince of House Svetoslav, and Detective Brody together in a frantic battle to save Alexandar's human lover and the city from a true monster. For lovers of vampires.

Maverick Commander Bennejin Skye and his team of infiltrators must turn rogue and ally themselves with alien invaders to save Earth from a greater alien threat. This is a military space opera with a Canadian hero. If you love flawed heroes, this is definitely one for you.

If this doesn't suit, perhaps you can help me another way. As many of you know, I have sponsored a grove in the Caledonian region of Scotland, where much of Daughters of Britain is set (a region named for the Celtic tribe - the Caledonii - with whom Mederei found a home following her mother's failed rebellion against Rome). It was a little idea of mine to kinda give back to the region for my use of it as a setting for the book. I also want to leave the world a little better than when I arrived, and restoring what used to be an large, ancient forest is one way I can do that.

This feels especially important following the terrible wildfires that ripped through the Scottish Highlands this summer.

If you'd like to help out there, you can buy a tree for planting in my grove with Trees for Life here.

And if that doesn't suit... uh... subscribe to my Ko-Fi? It's only $1.00 (Canadian) a month... though you can absolutely give more if you want to for some reason. It'll help me get one step closer to being able to go full time, which will ensure you get more stuff for that $1.00 (because I will have time to make it).

There. These are the ways you can help me celebrate my birthday if you really feel like you must.

I very much appreciate it, and you. Here's to my next level up!

Slán go foill!
