Good morning, Readers!
It's here!
OMG! It's FINALLY here!
Ahem... The Timbercreek Incident is now available for download, with the pre-orders for the paperback opening up soon (as of the writing of this)! I just need to finish the full cover for the paperback and have it uploaded and ready to go. I've decided to give myself a three month pre-order window, so I have plenty of time to make sure that everything is as good as it possibly can be before release date. That means this book will release in paperback July 1st.
Happy Canada Day?
I have been reliably informed that a summer release doesn't usually sell well at all, so... I might be shooting myself in the foot here. Don't care, really. This whole exercise was just for the fun of it, and good practice for my other upcoming publications.
As of right this moment, I have the eBook downloadable on a pay what you want basis here on Ko-Fi and also on itch.io. Pick your favourite platform and pay whatever you want (even if what you want is $0.00 - this has been free to read online for a while now, so don't feel badly). A reminder to the Starlings, a special edition is on its way just for you, so please only get this if you're one of those collectors that must have all editions of a thing.
If you want to go a more traditional route, the eBook is available here for roughly $2.99. I would ask that you please buy from bookshop.org specifically, as it goes towards your favourite participating book shop, and I think that supporting them is the best way to keep the reading ecosystem healthy.
You might notice that the book is not for sale on Amazon. This was a deliberate choice on my part. I wrote a blog post about it previously. I am not letting any amount of money I make, however meagre, go into the pockets of that company. I disagree with their treatment of their employees and of my fellow writers, and I'm making the decision to withhold any contribution to them whatsoever.
I do not expect that to be any great loss on their part. I'm not now a best-selling author. At best, I sell a couple of copies once a year. So my paltry income shall not be missed. That's alright.
The book is now listed on Goodreads and on TheStoryGraph, so you can add and review it there at your leisure if you so choose. I recommend going with the latter rather than the former, because Goodreads is now owned by Amazon, and, well, we all know how I feel about them. Even if they are a huge platform.
I do have a favour to ask of you: please, if you read the book, please, please, please review it - on any platform you desire. BUT be honest. I promise, I can take it. And a poor review can sometimes be exactly what entices the reader right for the story to pick it up, so if you didn't like it, say so (it would help if you explained why for your fellow readers). If you did like it... yay!
I am quite literally buzzing right now. It felt like such a slog to get this out into the world, and now it's here, and people can start reading it and maybe get a kick out it, and I'm really bloody chuffed, if you must know.
Now I have to turn my mind to marketing. Oh no. I have an announcement trailer planned for the moment the paperback goes on pre-order. But I should probably do more than that. Ugh. I must plan appropriately.
Also, I do need to get on the extra bits for the special edition, so that also requires a bit of brainstorming and planning.
No rest for the wicked(ly excited). Wish me luck!
Slán go foill!
