Some Great Things This Morning

Good morning, Readers!
Picture
I would live here. Also, this looks a lot like what I imagined a geal'c tree from The Great Man series I'm writing looks like. Nabbed this one from redwallpapers.com.
I read two pieces of good news that made me squeal this morning.  First, friend and good person, Derek Kunsken has been nominated for a Locus Magazine Award, and it made me so happy to hear.  Honestly, Derek is a great guy and a great writer, who has worked his arse off and really deserves this recognition.  I'm thrilled for him, and pleased that he's out there repping the Ottawa spec. fic. scene.

Digital high-five, Derek (because you won't get one in person, unless you manage to trick him)!

In even more exciting news, Cyan Inc., the developers of my favourite adventure puzzle game series on the face of the planet, Myst, is coming back with another one.  I discovered this thanks to Jaggy's aritcle on Chalgyr (read here)  Firmament is currently being kickstarted, and is being specifically made for VR.  Unfortunately, it doesn't look like I'll be getting it, because it won't be on the PS4 (currently PC only).  This news, however, is making me seriously consider getting a gaming PC with VR just to play this.  Hell, it's happened before (watching game play of Skyrim is the sole reason I bought my first console).

Speaking of Skyrim, here's one of my favourite YouTube musicians remaking the song that earned her a subscription from me.
*Sigh*

I can't believe it's been eight years.  I'm old.

Right, I have a lot of writing stuff to do.  I have to go do it.

Ciao!

I can't recommend the HTC Vive (VR system for PC) enough. It changed my life.

Ok, I should probably qualify that statement. I got one in September, discovered a VR table tennis game that I've been playing daily since, losing 25 pounds in the process.

All of this to say that VR can be so much more than just a device to play games.

I am definitely looking at getting one... if ever I can save up enough. Not only do I really want Firmament, but I'm also keen on Beat Sabre, AND there are a number of archery/sword-fighting games that look like silly fun. Alas, the key to everything is funds, but yeah, definitely on the wish list.

Yes, it's not cheap unfortunately. It also needs a semi-beefy PC to run it (and a fairly big empty space in your house).

Beat Saber is indeed great. My wife uses as a workout and I play one game as warm-up before jumping into the Table Tennis game.
