I don't have any equipment (like dumbbells or kettle balls, or bench press or squatting rack). What I would give for those things... and the space for those things. Alas, I don't have either. So I've been trying to make do. I've got a cinder block (two, for when I build up the strength) for weight training outside.
Unfortunately, it has been so damned hot outside so often, that I don't go out to train. It's too hot. And I'm suspicious of working out outside since I got heat stroke from a run a couple of weeks ago. So, inside it is.
Fortunately, my kung fu school is still running short classes to keep up conditioned on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Well, Tuesdays are for technique. Thursdays are for being dissolved into puddles of sweat and pain. I'm also trying to exercise on my own on the other days.
As I'm inside, that usually means I play Beat Sabre. It is by far the most played game on my system right now. I strap on some wrist weights (2.5lbs... both because that was the highest weight I could find and because after a bit of research that was the weight given for the average short sword. I'm getting my dual-wielding stamina, damn it!), and try to obliterate virtual boxes, virtually flying at me while listening to some pretty decent music.
It's surprisingly great exercise, especially once you start hitting the harder levels.
The way I'm working through it is this - I play a song on normal mode until I get a perfect combo. Then I go up to the next level (hard) and play that until I get a perfect combo. Then I go up to expert.
I'm still stuck on normal for a couple of songs in my playlist. Most of them are currently on the hard setting, and I have one that I just graduated to expert but haven't played at that level yet.
I've also started to loosen up while playing, and do some dancing around while cutting. It's really quite fun.
Am I gaining weight? Am I losing weight? I have no clue. I haven't weighed or measured myself since the lockdown started. I suppose I'll be going back to that if ever the gyms open up again. I will also be going back to heavy lifting, which I desperately miss. For now, though, while the weather sucks Satan's giant hairy testicles, I will be remaining inside, with my VR set and wrist weights, pretending that I can dual wield. To music.
Exercise should be enjoyable, I reckon, or it'd be impossible to stick to.
Right, I'm still editing manuscripts for folks, so I should get back on that.
Have yourselves a wonderful day.
Ciao!
