So, many of you probably know that it's my birthday sometime this month. I'm not telling you exactly when. That's not the point of this post.
People used to ask me what it was I wanted for my birthday. Honestly, other than a few silly things that I didn't actually need, I had no answer. So, instead of asking for things for myself, I started asking for people to donate to a charity or something in my name.
To that end, I created a 'team' on the website Kiva.org. It's a micro-lending site where ordinary people like myself can lend money to small business owners all over the world, making their lives easier and better without crippling them in terrible debt. These are all hard-working people trying to make ends meet. I really like the idea of micro-lending, because, from personal experience, just been given money can feel really demeaning. It's a huge blow to personal pride. A loan is easier to stomach. There's a huge psychological difference.
So, if you're feeling like you want to get me something for my birthday, instead consider joining my Kiva.org team here and make a loan, or donate a small amount to charity. If you really want to make my month, send me a snapshot of the donation. It doesn't have to be done in my name, either. It'll really warm my heart.
The campaign is for all of this month, so you can do it whenever.
And only if you're so inclined.
Thanks in advance!
