So, the official nominees for the Aurora Awards have been announced!
No, Skylark was not nominated. I'll not lie, I am disappointed, but certainly not surprised. Did you see the names on the list? I had a snowball's chance, and I knew it.
My disappointment, however, is nothing compared to the excitement I feel at seeing so many of my friends and friendly acquaintances on the list. I already know how I'm going to vote for best Fan Organisation, and I have a fairly good idea how I'm going to vote in most categories, but I'm going to wait until the voting packet comes out to make up my mind about the rest. Anyway, a massive congratulations to everyone who made it on the ballet, especially:
Kate Heartfield and Derek Künsken who were both nominated in the best novel category. It's a tough field, and these were my top picks. It's going to be really tough to decide between these two. Also, Derek's novel is up for two other awards that I know of, and I couldn't be more thrilled for him.
My good friend Éric Desmarais, whose young adult novel The Sign of the Faust was nominated. This news made me so happy, and I'm so excited for him.
Julie Czerneda and Kate Heartfield (again), who were both nominated in the short fiction category. Yay!
We Shall be Monsters, published by Renaissance Press and edited by the fabulous Derek Newman-Stille, was nominated in the best related work category.
Wonderful human and good friend Jen Desmarais was nominated for her TravellingTARDIS blog in best Fan Writing and Publications.
And, of course, huge congratulations to Derek Künsken (again) and Marie Bilodeau for being at the helm as Can*Con was nominated again for best Fan Organisation. Damned straight Can*Con has my immediate vote.
There were tonnes of other people who deserve all the congratulations. You can see the full list here. I hope your favourites got nominated, and that you're celebrating this week. The voter's package gets sent later this month, and I cannot wait to get it!
