Affiliated?

Good morning, Readers!

So... I logged on Twitch on Sunday to export my live stream to YouTube (full streams will be available there once I complete the game and have moved on to another), and this happened:

Apparently, I'm now a Twitch Affiliate. Not sure what that is... or even how that happened. I've been live streaming for months before I took the months-long break because of Covid + Move + Serious Depression and never got anywhere near.

I've been live streaming this time for just five weeks, and BAM! Affiliate!

So... Thanks, Twitch folks! You put me where I am today. Just... let me figure out where, exactly that is.

What is a Twitch Affiliate?

From what I gather, I can now make money from ads being run on my channel, and folks can now "subscribe" to my Twitch Channel. As far as I can tell, a subscription is just a follow that you pay money for each month. I think it hovers around $5.00 per sub, of which I would see roughly half. There might be some perks to subscribing (subscribers have access to exclusive emojis in chat, I think? I honestly don't know), but I'm not sure what that means exactly.

A friend and fellow affiliate has informed me that I shall see no money whatever until I've reached a payout threshold of $100.00. Which... makes sense, I guess.

So, having reached the Affiliate level, whatever that means, I now have to design six emojis that will be exclusive to my subscribers. I'm thinking that I will, of course, be going with a Celtic theme. I've already made changes to that effect for one of the things Twitch does... that I, of course, have no idea how it works or why folks use it.

Channel Points! People can accumulate Channel Points by doing various things on my stream (I think), and then trade in those Channel Points somehow. I think one of the things you can trade in your Channel Points for is making the streamer do things. I have stop swearing for ten minutes as one. Good luck to me, if anyone ever picks that one. Anyway, you can customize Channel Points by naming it whatever you want, and uploading a picture of whatever it is that you called it.

Being that I'd like to go for an Iron Age Britain kind of theme, I of course, turned my Channel Points into Torques. No, not the measurement. These things:

Don't know what it'll do or if it'll help make my channel grow at all, but I did it. Because why not?

What remains for me to do now is come up with Celtic-themed emotes that are also in line with my sweary, really bad at gaming, dies often brand. I'm not sure that this is in my skillset, but I'll give it some thought in the next little while and see what I come up with.

And then I can actively try and make my channel grow, which definitely is not in my skillset.

Listen, I am making light of it here, but I am really chuffed to have gotten this. I know it won't manifest in any appreciable income, but some people make really good money on Twitch, and the fact that I have a chance of getting a nice little payout every so often makes me pretty damned happy, even if it's just $100.00 every couple of years.

Anyway, I'll leave my Twitch deets below, in case anyone does want to check it out/subscribe or whatever. No obligation, though. Following is free, and I get to hang out with you beautiful peeps every Friday, while I muck around in a game, which is awesome in its own right.

So, yeah. Genuinely, thanks so much for getting me to Affiliate, even though I have no idea what to do with it, and thanks for hanging out with me on Friday evenings. It's been and continues to be a blast.

Ciao!
